Novitiate
As a novice, you will live at our noviceship in San Diego, where you will have time and space to deepen your understanding of the spirit, history and life of the Society. Because our mission impels us to be contemplative women serving in active ministries, much of your focus during this period will be on deepening your relationship with God. This includes growing in self-knowledge, learning more about the rich tradition of Catholic Christianity through courses in Scripture and theology, exploring the ways that religious life is evolving, and engaging in annual retreats. In keeping with our spirit of internationality, you will be encouraged during your notiviate to study another language, and you will have opportunities to engage in ministry.
During the two years of the novitiate, you will continue to reflect on your call to become a Religious of the Sacred Heart. This process includes seeking input from others with whom you live and work, including the director of novices and your spiritual director. You will study and reflect on the principles of the Society as set forth in our constitutions and have many opportunities to learn about the life of the Society throughout the world. You will make an extended retreat directed by a trained spiritual director. At the end of the two years, you may make a formal request to profess temporary vows, expressing your commitment to live as a Religious of the Sacred Heart and to begin the next stage of your formation as a professed of temporary vows RSCJ.
Please let us know if you have further questions, or if you would like to meet with an RSCJ as you reflect on choices for your life.
